36- EL HOYO EN NUESTRO EVANGELIO

Fui patrocinado por Compassion y te podría decir que es parte de las razones por las que hoy soy cristiano y estoy sirviendo en el ministerio hoy. Siendo un país “en vía de desarrollo”, en República Dominicana trabajan muchas organizaciones como Compassion, una de ellas es World Vision. Por esa razón leer “The Hole in Our Gospel” fue una experiencia con la que me pude identificar, puedo ver a primera mano lo que estás organizaciones están haciendo en nuestro país y como tantos niños y familias están recibiendo la Palabra de Dios a través de ellas.

Algo anda mal, nuestra experiencia ecclesial es más como ir al Supermercado o al Centro Comercial (algo que Richard Stearns llama “Bingo Card Gospel” en su libro), la iglesia es algo que te podría gustar pero en lo que realmente no quieres participar o ensuciarte las manos. Si tienes está percepción o no entiendes a las personas que tienen esta percepción entonces ¨The Hole in Our Gospel” (“El Hoyo en Nuestro Evangelio”) es un buen comienzo. Realmente disfruté el capítulo en “La Gran Omisión”, ver como “La Gran Comisión” (en palabras de Dallas Willard) es más “La Gran Omisión” en nuestras iglesias. Los capítulos son cortos lo que hace la lectura bien fácil y aparte de eso serás desafiado durante todo el camino.

Unas últimas palabras: La razón por la cual es el hoyo en NUESTRO evangelio es porque no necesariamente sea de Cristo sino NUESTRA version de ello.

THE HOLE IN OUR GOSPEL

I'm from the Dominican Republic and I was a Compassion's kid. I can tell you that this is part of the main reason I'm still a Christian who serves in ministry today. Being that the Dominican Republic is considered a “third world” country, several organizations work in the same way Compassion does. One of those is World Vision. This is why reading “The Hole in our Gospel” was such an “aha!” experience. I can see first hand the good that these organizations are doing in our country, and how so many children and families are receiving the Word of God through them.

Something, however, is wrong right now. Our Church experience is more like going to the Supermarket or going to the Shopping Mall (“Bingo Card Gospel” as Richard Stearns call it in the book). It's something that you could probably like but you don´t really get involved with. If you have this same perception or don't understand people that have it, “The Hole in our Gospel” is a good starting point. I really enjoyed the chapter on “The Great Omission”, which is about how “The Great Commission” is now greatly absent in our churches. The book's chapters are short, so it's such an easy read. And besides, you'll be challenged all the way through.

A last word: The reason there is a hole in OUR gospel is because it's OURS, and not necessarily Jesus's.
